When writing calms you down and clears your thoughts.
A fruit stall uncle made my day today.
I was feeling slightly under the weather, and after my assessment session that dragged on for the longest time, my brain felt like it malfunctioned.
I could feel my patience thinning as the seconds ticked by and yet I tried to be gentle and encouraging, at the same time, maintained firm and set my boundaries.
Then I prayed to God for his patience and miraculously, I managed to get the kid back on track.
I decided that I needed a walk, so we went for lunch at NUS and turned out that my comfort food was OOS - because horrible things happen in pairs ;(
And because the weather was so warm, I decided to get some fruit juice to cool myself down.
There I met the fruit stall. He took his time to greet every single customer, asked them in his bright and cheery voice, “What can I get you today?”
And then in the same cheerful tone, sent the orders to the kitchen and started chatting the customers up.
I wasn’t feeling so chatty at the moment so I stepped away. But his enthusiasm spread and my gaze was enamoured by him. I couldn’t hear him but I could see him sincerely speaking to each customer as he passed them their drinks with something along the lines of “may your work be smooth sailing and not stressful”.
When it was my turn, I stepped up and the uncle prayed, “May your work be smooth sailing, may you not be stressed and may the drink protects you from the virus. In Jesus name, Amen.”
In that instance, I smiled.
Not because of his prayer, not because of his infectious chattiness but because while he was praying, his voice trembled.
I guessed it must take him a whole truckload of courage and love to set out and pray for people. To remain calm amongst the hordes of people queuing and sincerely pray for each and everyone.
Today, he lifted the spirits of a person in need. He was my angel in disguise.
God sends his angels everywhere.
Proverbs 3:5-7
Trust in the Lord with all your heart and lean not on your understanding.
In all your ways, acknowledge Him and he shall direct your paths.
Do not be wise in your own eyes. Fear the Lord and depart from evil.
