Had GEMS yesterday, and we did a personality test. Think i'm so old now cause i dont get cheated by these tests anymore cause all it does is says some stuffs that are so general that everyone would feel the same way. ._.
But anyway, one of the question was, Am I a worrier? And i thought i was, but then i asked chong, and she said nope. Hmm.
But anyway, saw this one Yahoo on how to beat your worries.
Apparently worrying is necessary for spurring us on to achieve our goals, that is why i have been so goal-roriented. But it says worrying for long term periods can disrupt the balance in our nervous system and is detrimental to our health. I know right. All the white hairs and wrinkles. & you don't feel good. -.-
First: Forget the things you can't change.
I guess it means that don't worry about something that has already happened. It sounds so easy. Well everything sounds easy, but in actual fact it is bloody hard to do. It's almost like Crying over spilt milk which you know you shouldn't do, but everyone does.
I always said i won't regret my decisions, and i don't. But i think of them alot.
"Bad memories from the past are toxic to our health and highly counterproductive so you must bury the burdens of your past and move on"
Sometimes it just sneaks up on you at your worst moments.
Second: Write a worry list.
LOL. List can be your biggest enemy too. ._. I saw a video online once about creating lists to stop yourself from forgetting stuff and yet the list became his biggest enemy when he procrastinate the stuff he needs to do again and again. Til the list was soooo long, and he doesn't feel like doing anything.
You're supposed to write down EVERYTHING you're worried about and rate them, then you turn them( the list) into an action list, and work on them.
Waittttt, what if what you're worrying about can't be worked on. It's like invisible worrying. Say, worry about hurting people. Could we try to work on not hurting them? Even the truth hurts.
Okay, that sounds not right. But i get my point. :S
Moving on to the third: Discipline your thoughts.
Hell yeah.
You're supposed to turn every negative thought into a positive one.
Use: Is this really helpful?" everytime your worry. If no, then you screw that thought or like at the bright side of it. & that takes a hell of a person. Sometimes i can't do that. it's one of those phase, yaknow?
Next: Ditsract yourself through relaxation. This one i like heh.
When our brain is working cause we're worrying about a couple things all at once, it tends not to find alogical solution to our problems. And i'll change that to, it tends not to work, period. I nearly crashed into a banner today while walking. ._.
So, we must relax and unwind and do breathing exercises, blah blah blah. Best way imo? Go for a maasage, soak in the tub for a damn long time, or just sing and scream. Do something YOU like.
Lavender and bath works pretty damn good for me. When i was in states, i was so drained one fine day and i decided to make full use of that pretty little tub in my bathroom. Reinvigorated i was, when i emerged 1 hour later.
Oh, ice cream and chocolates works well too, if that few extra calories poses no problem.
Fifth, Talk to family and friends.
As the saying goes, a problem shared is a problem halved. True that.
I absolutely agree with saying the problems out loud can get your thoughts cleared, if it's something minor, itmakes you realised it's not worth the worry.
It's kinda hard for me, so i found another way which is through writing, blogging. And just spending time sitting down, daydreaming. It is not a waste of time as it allows you to collect your thoughts.
No problem is too huge, and take those moments to give yourself a prep talk. Let yourself stand up again.
Sixth, Confront the problem head-on. I'll admit. I'm a 1. escaper, and til i really need to face it, then i'll try to find a way to accomodate everyone.
Some problems DONT go away until you get up on your lazy ass and do something about it. And sometimes, people realised that a little too late.
Be focused as the article says, and work your way through the problem. Best analogy i could think of? Math.
Lastly, put things into perspective.
It says to see the bigger picture and don't let the minor stuff bother. Don't let the problem magnify under your magnifying lens and scare yourself.
So don't panic, and be logical, " Does this problem affect your entire life? " A super logical yet retarded question, cause nothing affects your entire life, if you don't let it.
The key point for me, is to move on. As i said, No problem is too big to handle. Just chop them up into pieces and use enzymes to digest them. Or run far far away. LOL. Develop amnesia.
But " The chances are there will be many people worse off than you " And yeah, there are. Many in fact, out there in this world, trying just alone, to survive.
BUTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTT,
I think worrying is something inate, and unless you trained yourself not to worry, or you're just one of those asses in this world who doesnt have any worries, you're bound to. Like me. So no worries, just follow these tips when you can, cause i found them similar to what i've been doing, and worry less. LESS.
I feel a headache in between my eyes. Bye.
